PITTI FILATI

At this year’s Pitti Filati, brands and designers presented their collections for fall/winter 2014-15. The trade fair provided fashion companies an important insight into the new trends concerning knitwear yarn. As compared to Pitti UMNO and Bimbo, the crowd was much less at Pitti Filati, mostly were specialized buyers who understood the technical construction of yarn.

As a fashion business student, I have minimal knowledge about yarn, as it is not my area of expertise. I am certainly thankful for our Materials and Production class in Shanghai and Process of Collection class at Polimoda, or else I would be in a total lost at the fair.

The trade fair displayed the best of knitting yarn made in Italy. After spending a couple of hours there, I sighted the main textiles showcased at the fair were wool and cotton and the obvious textile trends revealed for next year were fancy yarns and fabrics knitted together with metal threads. These trends were shown widely in the following three brands:

1. Mirella Filati By Giorgini Silvano Filorosso

The company specializes in producing classic yarns and fancy yarns for knitwear. For the winter collection, the company produces warm and light effect yarns with the use of ultra soft mohair. Trendy color yarns were available at the brand’s pavilion at Pitti Filati.

2. Toscano

The company is specialized in the production of fancy yarns for both knitting machines and for hand-made. Cotton, cashmere, wool and silk are the protagonists, wrap and shaped into prestigious creations.

3. Pinori Filati

Last week, I had the chance to visit Pinori Filati office with Polimoda for our Process of Collection module. I was given the chance to view the fall/winter collection before the Pitti fair. As expected, the collection presented at the brand’s pavilion was mainly made of fancy yarn with different effects.
